Often skipped by hurried travelers, Jieyang keeps the most everyday face of Chaoshan: the Rong River runs through town and Jinxian Gate still stands at its center.
Yangmei village is famous for jade craftsmanship, while clan halls and deity processions carry on the region's oldest traditions.
It is also most visitors' first stop — Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport sits inside the city, so the first step you take in Chaoshan is usually on Jieyang ground.
